Three years old, are you sure?!?

Yes it is true three years ago the Lord blessed our families with a sweet little man we call David Nelson.
He truly is a big boy now.  From the way he imitates his daddy to the stories he tells.  He is so smart.  He has this incredible ability of convincing mommy; really he could probably sell me dirt.  I have an inkling of where he might have gotten that from…Nelson.

We celebrated David Nelson’s birthday a few weekends ago.  The inspiration was a red derby car Nelson had made when he was little boy.  I love planning and making all the little things for birthday parties.  It gives me a great excuse to sew and make a mess and then an extremely good reason to clean it all up again with a very important deadline,
                party day!

Rachel did an amazing job capturing so much of the fun.  I love seeing the little moments she is able to catch and the angle she uses makes even the simplest decoration look so cool.

Mary Kathryn is the artist in the family and she was in charge of making the t-shirts.  I was very nervous about this activity, but somehow she was able to get all the little ones to happily make the cutest tire track tees.  Of course Ray and Mary K could not resist making their own!!

Other activities including a bean bag toss, a tire shop, a cozy coup track with gas pump, and a roller coaster with a real stoplight (which Nelson had wired so you could do red, yellow, and then green – GO!!).  The coaster was one of David Nelson’s gifts from his grandparents.  It was and still is a hug hit!!

David Nelson could not even stop for a cupcake, but little brother had no trouble.  Hendricks’ first birthday was a “hungry caterpillar” party.  Extremely fitting, evident from his party pictures.

Thanks to all family and friends that came – you are what really makes the parties so special!!!

Perfect Little Moments

There are always these little moments that just seem perfect.  I always feel like I will never forget, but somehow I know in a few days I will have forgotten.  Not any more, I am a blogger now and will have a written trail of those little moments.  (Can you tell I am excited about blogging)

A couple days ago Nelson, my husband, and I had one of those moments.  I was so impressed with us.  We were on time, kids were happy, they had their sippy cups in hand, and we were headed to load them up in the car.  As I was walking to the car I was thinking to myself, "wow, we are getting in a groove and really getting it together."  I was so proud.  I went to put the seat belt on my littlest man and ....... well I had put him the wrong seat.  I looked up to start laughing and at that same moment Nelson was holding the other car seat belt in his hand.  He had done the same thing without even pausing.  All we could do was smile at each other in acceptance.  The boys on the other hand started laughing histarically at us.  David Nelson was in the baby seat and Hendricks was in the big boy seat.
It was perfect!!
Yes boys you have got some silly parents.  We were really just making sure you two were paying attention!!
